Sydney Airport Project

How We Solved Our Client's Operational and Project Challenges

Client Overview

An airport terminal in Sydney required the replacement and installation of passenger seating while maintaining normal daytime operations. The scope included unloading and destuffing new seating, removing existing benches and packaging, assembling and positioning replacement units, clearing waste, and completing final installation checks. A five-person crew and dedicated project manager were assigned to deliver the works across an approved two-night programme.

Logistics Challenge

Installation could only take place between approximately 9:30 pm and 4:00 am, with airport induction and controlled entry procedures further reducing productive working time. The terminal also offered limited space for staging and installation. During the works, the team identified that part of the proposed seating layout would restrict access to a toilet door, requiring the layout to be reviewed without delaying the overnight programme or affecting the terminal’s reopening.

How Snapes Supported

Snapes sequenced the works around the terminal’s restricted overnight access window, progressively relocating existing seating, clearing work areas, unpacking new units, assembling them, and positioning each bench within the approved layout. When the access conflict was identified, the issue was documented and escalated for approval before installation continued. Following the approved layout adjustment, the team completed final fixing, levelling, site cleaning, and handover checks before the terminal returned to normal operations.

The Results of a Well-Planned Project Delivery

The seating installation was completed in approximately one and a half nights, ahead of the approved two-night programme. Each overnight shift concluded with the work area cleared and prepared for normal terminal operations, allowing the airport environment to reopen without extending the planned installation window.

Completed in Approximately 1.5 Nights

The installation was completed ahead of the approved two-night project schedule.
